Use this as a preference comparison, then check the live status module above for current operations.
| Decision | Blizzard Beach | Typhoon Lagoon |
|---|---|---|
| Theme | Melting ski resort / winter-in-Florida | Tropical island after a legendary storm |
| Signature thrill | Summit Plummet | Crush 'n' Gusher / Humunga Kowabunga |
| Wave pool | Melt-Away Bay | Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool with 6-foot swells |
| Lazy river | Cross Country Creek | Castaway Creek |
| Younger-kid areas | Tike's Peak + Ski Patrol Training Camp | Ketchakiddee Creek + Bay Slides |
| Family raft options | Teamboat Springs | Miss Adventure Falls + Gangplank Falls |
| Best fit if… | You want the ski theme and classic big-slide mix | You care most about the surf pool and water-coaster feel |
Which Disney water park is better for thrill rides?
Both have real thrill attractions, but they feel different. Blizzard Beach's identity is anchored by Summit Plummet and other downhill slides. Typhoon Lagoon adds the coaster-like Crush 'n' Gusher plus the steep enclosed Humunga Kowabunga.
Which has the better wave pool?
Typhoon Lagoon is the clear choice if the wave pool itself is a priority. Disney describes Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool as North America's largest wave pool with 6-foot swells. Blizzard Beach's Melt-Away Bay is a different, gentler centerpiece.
Which is better for younger kids?
Both have dedicated areas. Blizzard Beach lists Tike's Peak for children 48 inches or shorter plus Ski Patrol Training Camp. Typhoon Lagoon lists Ketchakiddee Creek for children 48 inches or shorter and Bay Slides for guests 60 inches or shorter.
Which has the better lazy river?
Both parks have a full-scale lazy-river option: Cross Country Creek at Blizzard Beach and Castaway Creek at Typhoon Lagoon. This is not a strong enough difference to choose the park by itself.
Which is better for adults?
Adults who care about the giant surf pool and water coaster may prefer Typhoon Lagoon. Adults who want Summit Plummet, the unusual ski-resort setting and a more slide-focused identity may prefer Blizzard Beach. The right answer depends more on attraction priorities than age.
Check which park is open before deciding
Disney can rotate the water parks through seasonal and refurbishment closures. As checked November 8, 2026, Typhoon Lagoon is closed for refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen January 27, 2027; Disney says Blizzard Beach will temporarily close for refurbishment at that time. The live module above should be your first check.
