Disney rental or length-of-stay mobility device?
| Need | Start here | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Help only with long distances inside a park | Disney in-park rental | Simple and relatively inexpensive once you reach the park |
| Mobility support from Resort room to transportation and back | Third-party / personally owned device | Disney rentals cannot leave the destination |
| Need guaranteed equipment each morning | Pre-booked third-party rental | Disney park rentals cannot be reserved and quantities are limited |
| Need a device across several days | Wheelchair: compare Disney $10/day multi-day vs. third party; ECV: third party | Disney offers no Length of Stay ECV rental |
| Want unattended delivery at a Disney Resort hotel | ScooterBug, Disney's Featured Provider | Disney says Resort Guests do not need to be present for ScooterBug delivery/return |
| Have your own wheelchair or ECV | Bring it | Disney permits personal mobility devices that meet its rules |
What changes once you have an ECV or wheelchair?
| Transportation issue | Current Disney guidance | Plan for |
|---|---|---|
| Disney buses | Buses are equipped to accommodate qualifying wheelchairs and ECVs | Device must fit the lift/ramp and onboard restraints; many buses hold up to 2 mobility devices |
| ECV on bus | Disney recommends transferring to a bus seat when possible | Crowded boarding can take longer than walking on with no device |
| Attractions | Access varies by attraction | Some let you remain in the device; others require transfer to a wheelchair or ride vehicle |
| Accessible Minnie Van | Can be booked through Lyft | Useful when a Guest needs an accessible point-to-point ride |
| Parking | Disability parking is available with a valid permit | Standard parking rates still apply |
How much is a Disney World wheelchair rental?
Disney currently lists wheelchair rentals at $12 per day in the theme parks. Its Length of Stay option is $10 per day for multi-day theme-park use, subject to availability. At water parks and Disney Springs, the daily rate is $12 and Disney requires a refundable $100 deposit.
How much is a Disney World ECV rental?
Disney currently lists ECV rentals at $65 per day. Theme-park ECV rentals require a refundable $20 deposit. Water parks and Disney Springs use a $100 refundable deposit.
Can you reserve a Disney wheelchair or ECV?
No. Disney says both wheelchair and ECV rentals are first come, first served and quantities are limited. If the trip depends on having a device, a pre-booked third-party rental removes the risk that the park supply is gone when you arrive.
Can you take a Disney rental back to your hotel?
No. Disney-rented wheelchairs and ECVs cannot be removed from the destination where they were rented. That is the most important distinction in the entire decision. The walk from a Resort room to transportation and from parking to the rental counter still exists.
What happens when you park hop?
Return the Disney rental at the first destination. At the next location, present the same-day receipt to obtain another device, subject to availability. For an ECV, Disney says to present the rental receipt with the deposit. The receipt transfers; the physical device does not.
Wheelchair multi-day rentals work differently from ECVs
Disney offers a discounted wheelchair Length of Stay option for theme parks, currently $10 per day, although the rental ticket may not be available during peak periods. Disney does not offer a Length of Stay ECV rental.
Age and weight limits
Disney requires the wheelchair renter and ECV renter/operator to be at least 18 with photo ID. The current listed wheelchair maximum is 350 pounds. The current ECV maximum is 450 pounds, and Disney says the ECV is designed for one rider.
When a third-party rental makes more sense
A length-of-stay rental is the stronger tool when the Guest needs mobility support at the Resort, on the way to transportation, across multiple parks or throughout the entire vacation. It also lets you reserve equipment instead of relying on Disney's first-come inventory.
What is special about ScooterBug?
Disney identifies ScooterBug as its Featured Provider for stroller, wheelchair and ECV rentals. For Disney Resort hotel Guests using ScooterBug, Disney says the Guest does not need to be present for delivery or return because the provider can coordinate with Resort Cast Members.
Can you use another rental company?
Yes. Disney allows Guests to bring their own wheelchair or ECV and acknowledges other third-party rental choices. The operational difference is delivery: a provider without the Disney Featured Provider arrangement may require you to meet the driver or handle pickup and return differently.
How do wheelchairs and ECVs work on Disney buses?
Disney says all bus routes are serviced by buses equipped for qualifying wheelchairs and ECVs. The device has to fit the lift or ramp and be secured in onboard restraints. Disney notes that most buses can hold up to two mobility devices and recommends that an ECV rider transfer to a bus seat when possible.
Attractions do not all use the device the same way
Some attractions allow a Guest to remain in a wheelchair or ECV. Others require a transfer from ECV to wheelchair, or from the mobility device into the ride vehicle. Check the attraction's accessibility designation rather than assuming one rule covers the entire park.
Charging belongs in a length-of-stay ECV plan
If you rent an ECV for the whole trip, overnight charging is part of the routine. Start each park day with a full battery and know where the charger is stored. A mobility plan is only as reliable as the battery that powers it.
How I would make the call
If the Guest only needs help with the long distances once inside the park, Disney's rental is straightforward. If support is needed from hotel room to park and back, or if equipment availability must be guaranteed, price a length-of-stay rental before travel.
