MCO to Disney World transportation options
There is no single best choice. Use this table to eliminate the options that do not fit your party.
| Option | Pricing style | Speed / waiting | Car-seat situation | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mears Connect Standard | Per person; published shuttle fares | Shared service can include departure wait and hotel stops | Coach-style service; check current child-seat policies for your exact need | Solo travelers, couples and smaller parties prioritizing predictable pricing |
| Uber / Lyft | Per vehicle; varies with demand and ride type | Usually direct once matched | Standard vehicles do not guarantee a car seat | Adults, older children and parties where one vehicle is cheaper than per-person shuttle fares |
| Uber Car Seat | Per vehicle + current $10 Car Seat surcharge | Reserved direct ride | One Nuna RAVA seat; Uber lists Orlando availability for children 5–65 lb | Family needing one compatible seat and wanting a direct transfer |
| Pre-booked private transfer | Usually quoted per vehicle | Direct; pickup terms vary by company | Can be booked around required child seats if the provider confirms them | Multiple seats, large luggage loads, larger groups or families wanting the least uncertainty |
| Rental car | Daily/weekly vehicle cost + tolls/fuel/other parking | Direct after rental pickup process | You control the child-seat setup | Trips that also need groceries, off-property travel or regular driving |
Which option would I start with?
| Party / trip | Start here | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 travelers | Mears vs. standard rideshare | Per-person shuttle pricing can still compete with a whole rideshare vehicle |
| 3–4 travelers without car-seat needs | Uber/Lyft | Per-vehicle pricing often becomes more attractive as the party grows |
| Family needing one compatible child seat | Uber Car Seat vs. private transfer | Uber now has a reservable one-seat product in Orlando; private service gives more customization |
| Family needing 2+ child seats | Private transfer | Uber Car Seat currently provides one seat per trip |
| Large group / lots of luggage | Private van or larger rideshare | Vehicle capacity matters more than the headline fare |
| Need a car during the vacation | Rental car | The airport transfer becomes only one use of the vehicle |
| No hurry after a midday arrival | Mears Connect | Shared-service waiting is easier to tolerate when arrival time is flexible |
Magical Express is not coming to pick you up
Disney's former complimentary airport transportation is gone. Disney does not currently provide complimentary transportation between Orlando International Airport and Walt Disney World Resort, so the transfer belongs in the trip budget.
Best budget starting point for one or two travelers: Mears Connect
Mears Connect operates shared transportation between MCO and Walt Disney World-area hotels. Its published airport walk-up pricing currently shows $17.60 per adult and $14.30 per child ages 3 to 9 from the airport to the resort, with round-trip and return-leg pricing available. Children under 3 ride free on Standard service. Check the booking total for current fees before buying.
The Mears tradeoff is stops and waiting
Standard Mears service is shared. You may wait for departure and the coach may stop at other hotels first. The upside is predictable logistics and pricing that does not change because rideshare demand spikes. It is a stronger fit when price certainty matters more than getting to the room as fast as possible.
Best default for speed: Uber or Lyft
Rideshare is the simplest direct option for many parties: collect luggage, request the vehicle and go to the hotel. Pricing varies with demand, vehicle class and airport charges. For 3 or 4 travelers, compare the whole rideshare price with the total per-person shuttle cost rather than assuming the bus is cheaper.
Uber Car Seat changes the answer for some families
Uber currently lists Car Seat service in Orlando. The reservable ride uses an Uber XL vehicle with one Nuna RAVA seat for a child weighing 5 to 65 pounds, and Uber currently adds a $10 surcharge for the Car Seat product. The parent or caregiver remains responsible for securing the child. One trip includes one car seat, so this does not solve a family that needs two or more seats.
Private transportation still wins when the car-seat problem is complicated
A pre-booked private transfer remains the cleanest option when you need multiple confirmed seats, a specific seat type, a larger vehicle or a provider waiting for your party. Confirm the exact seat arrangement with the company before paying rather than assuming 'family transfer' means the equipment you need.
Best if you need a car all week: rental car
A rental car gives you control over airport arrival, groceries, off-property meals and departure day. Include the whole cost—rental rate, tolls, fuel and parking outside Disney. Disney Resort hotel guests currently receive complimentary standard theme-park parking, which can improve the rental-car math for some itineraries.
Do not rent a car just for the airport transfer
If you plan to rely on Disney buses, monorails, boats and Skyliner once you arrive, renting solely for MCO transportation adds a rental counter, vehicle return and days of cost to solve two rides. Compare a round-trip shuttle, rideshare or private transfer first.
Know where airport pickup happens
Orlando International Airport directs rideshare pickups to the arrivals/baggage-claim level and places resort buses, shuttles, taxis and other ground transportation on the ground-transportation level. Follow the terminal signage and the provider's current app instructions rather than an old screenshot from a travel blog.
Arrival time changes the best choice
A late-night landing with tired children increases the value of a reserved direct ride. A midday arrival with no hurry makes a shared shuttle easier to tolerate. The cheapest fare is not always the cheapest travel day once you put a value on an extra hour at the airport.
Departure day needs more margin
For the return to MCO, allow time for traffic, baggage, security and airline check-in. Shared shuttles build in more lead time because they may collect other passengers. Rideshare gives you more control, which also means the timing decision is yours.
What I would book
One or two adults: compare Mears and rideshare. Three or four travelers without car-seat complications: start with rideshare. One young child who fits Uber's current Car Seat parameters: compare Uber Car Seat with a private transfer. Two or more seats, lots of luggage or a larger party: price a private vehicle. Rent a car only when the vehicle will solve other problems during the trip.
